In Our Schools

Thanks to a generous grant donation from the Sorenson Legacy Foundation, professional musicians/storytellers were able to visit Cache Valley and Box Elder schools and present whole school assemblies, class musical instruction/workshops, creative writing classes, and hands on opportunities to enrich their educational experiences. We were able to reach over 5,000 students in 2016 with this educational grant. We especially thank the Sorenson Legacy Foundation and our Cache County School District Arts Specialist for helping to make this possible!!

This year we are pleased to have had the following professional musicians, poets & artists in our schools:

Musicians:

Cowboy Ernie Sites – Whole School or smaller group assemblies , trick roping, western history, music – 30 – 60 min assemblies – all ages.

Gary Allegretto – Learn to Play Cowboy Harmonica – 4-12th graders 1 hour teaching sessions  -(around 50 students optimum, but some flexibility with numbers )  Each students receive a harmonica that they can keep.  There can be an optional whole school 30 – 45 minute assembly featuring the kids playing the songs they learn.

Ed Peekeekoot – Ed will be working with the guitar students in the valley.

Trinity Seely – Will be working with the choir students at Canyon Elementary, and other classrooms during the week.

Literary Development:

Sam DeLeeuw – Professional  Cowboy Poet – “ Western Word-Smithing” teaching poetry writing techniques to 4th – 12th graders – (small groups – approx.. 40 students), with the options of offering an afterschool class for students seriously interested in learning creative writing techniques.

Youth & Adult Poetry Contest will be held again this year, on March 4th.  Students are encouraged to write their own poetry and present it in this contest.  Generous prizes available, but more importantly, they will be honing memorization skills and public speaking performance.  Teachers who want to offer a segment during their core curriculum program, can encourage any youth to participate.

Clive Romney – Utah/Western History Storyteller/Musician available to visit classrooms/ whole school assemblies.  Clive will return in the month of May to continue educational opportunities for our schools.

Visual Art Development:

Professional Artist TBA –  will be available to work with individual art classes in Visual art development.
